  • Notes
  • Spring Motor Phonograph, Edison 1897. The deep cover containing the entire machine is characteristic of this model, which transformed into the Triumph when the case was redesigned in 1901. Other characteristics are the straight edge (in front of the spindle, supporting the arm carrier) and the Standard speaker. The advance screw and spindle are rear and allow you to play both the four-minute cylinders and the original two-minute cylinders. Many Spring Motors have a nickel-plated plate attached to the crankcase, marked "Spring Motor for Phonograph", although early examples had "The United States Phonograph Company, Newark, New Jersey" written on a similar plate in the same location.

Reiss lists this as manufactured from 1895-1900 and cost $100 USD, and somewhat rare with an estimated value of $2500 USD (2007).

Fonografo Spring Motor, Edison 1897.
