  • Notes
  • The HQ-140X has a round S-meter similar to that of the HQ-129X and the SP-200 series. The HQ-140XA has one of two styles of more "modern" square S-meters. It appears that the only difference between the 140X and the 140 XA is the S-meter. The early 140XA had a squared black S-meter that is similar to that of the original HQ-120 (more modern?). This later 140XA has the clear-surround S-meter that became the standard for the HQ-150, HQ-170 and others. Thus, there are two variations of the HQ-140XA.

See QST magazine, December 1957, p. 125 for an ad for the model. An earlier ad for the HQ-140XA with the black square S-meter is pictured in QST, December 1956, p. 127 as well as in the November and May 1956 issues. A matching speaker is shown in an ad in the April 1956, QST p. 83.
