The HP 8140A is a hand-held optical test set that can be used as a fiber optic power meter, as a loss test set or as a light source. It can be configured with a range of plug-in source and sensor modules to cover the different optical wavelengths commonly used in datacom LANs and telecommunication networks, and can be used to measure the insertion loss of passive optical components and the total link loss to check for power budgets.
