- The catalog names this Lafayette model A-81 Globe Girdler and the variant for Europe A-81L Globe Girdler. They have Automatic Volume Control, a 3-gang tuning condenser with an airplane dial, continuously variable tone control and a mantel cabinet. The model A-81 has the following bands: 18 - 50 m short wave, 75 - 200 m and BC is 200 - 550 m. The A-81L has a band covering wavelengths between 850 - 2000 meters substituted for the 75 to 200 m. Both are also available for 220 AC operation for an addl. $ 1.50.
The list price for model A-81 is $ 39.90 but lafayette puts a price of $ 19.95. For the A-81L it is $ 47.00 versus $ 23.50. In catalog no. 59 for 1936 the A-81L is listed for $ 21.50 - and the text reads: "FIVE latest type tubes are used in an entirely new 1936 superhet circuit - listing tubes which have been used at least since 1932 (42) if we forget the 80 from 1927.
