  • Notes
  • The half-wave HT supply uses a single Hitachi 1S31 diode (300V PIV germanium) from the HT winding on the mains transformer feeding a standard capacitor / resistor smoothing circuit.

The bands covered are the standard ‘general coverage’ for the time, specifically:

    550 kc/s – 1.6 Mc/s
    1.5 Mc/s – 4.5 Mc/s
    4 Mc/s – 12 Mc/s
    11.5 Mc/s – 30 Mc/s

There is no obvious BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator, necessary for a receiver to be in the ‘communications’ class) valve. The front panel BFO switch/potentiometer controls the screen grid voltage of the 6BA6 IF amplifier valve, and hence the gain of the stage, and enables the gain to be set high enough to make the valve oscillate at the IF frequency.

Similar models are Unica UNR-30, Olson RA-48 and Knight Span Master II.
