- Notes
-
Since the EMI T.1509 shortwave transmitter weighs over 360 kg, safely packing, transporting and unpacking the unit can be challenging. As part of the precautionary measures, all the five vulnerable meters on the front panel of the transmitter are permanently protected by chrome-plated circular steel guards. Each guard consists of a ring of external diameter 81 mm, cut from 1.7 mm steel plate, to which are welded three horizontal and two vertical steel wires of diameter 1.25 mm. The asymmetric positioning of the horizontal wires allows free access to the meter zero adjustment. The wires are welded to each other at the six crossing points, and to ten points around the ring. They are formed to stand clear of the glass meter face, giving the guard an overall height of 8 mm. 4 mm wide slots are provided in the ring to allow the guards to be secured by the screws that attach the meter to the panel.
