Note that the National brand could not be used in the USA and subsequently Panasonic was created as a brand.
Model PL-420B uses a National BL-145 (Eveready 467, RCA VS-016, Burgess XX-45) battery. Model PL-420A uses the smaller battery National BL-145B (Eveready 457, RCA VS-082, Burgess K-45) - probably the cabinets differ in the internal layout or exterior dimensions.
