  • The Philco model 37-640 series (1936-37) are 7-tube 3-band AC-powered receivers with shadow meter. The chassis is similar in design to its predecessors used in the model 640 series (1935) and 645 series (1936), but with newer octal tubes. Band coverage of 37-640 is 530-1720 kHz (BC), 2.3-7.4 MHz (SW1), and 7.35-22 MHz (SW2).

There are three specific models in the series with different cabinet styles. Model 37-640B is a tombstone. Model 37-640X is a console with inclined sounding board, with a slightly trapezoidal overall profile. Model 37-640MX is a second console version with inclined sounding board, having a recessed control panel and four vertical slots for the speaker opening.
