Voltasche Säule, die erste funktionierende Batterie. Sie bestand aus übereinander geschichteten Elementen aus je einer Kupfer- und einer Zinkplatte, die von Textilien, die mit Säure (zunächst Wasser bzw. Salzlake) getränkt waren, voneinander getrennt waren.
