  • Notes
  • Aerial matching (Tuning) unit for Clansman VRC-321 HF Transmitter/Receiver. Typically  used with British Army military vehicles using an 8' (2.6m) whip. Rated 250W average.

Correct designation is TURF-250W. It is part of radio station UK/VRC-322 comprising the HF radio RT-321 used as the exciter/receiver in this configuration, preselector/bandpass filter SURF-25W, a 250W single tetrode linear amplifier and this ATU. The ATU supports long wire, dipole and rod antennas but wires have to be cut to a length that is slightly shorter than 1/4 wave or 3/4 wave as it works best for resistive or slightly inductive loads. The meter indicates reverse power but is not operational without the radio to power it. Used with an external meter it will work well with any 250W-300W class transmitter.  I use one in my radio station at G0OZS both with an RT-321 barefoot and a Skanti TRP-8255 transceiver at 250W CW and have owned the full UK/VRC-322 station in the past.
