This Radio Frequency Choke was used in AM receivers prior to the audio amplifier, as basic inductor used to block(choke) the passage of high radio frequencies(RF) and allow the low audio frequencies and DC current to pass through.
As an example of its use, see the anode circuit of the 224 detector in the Simplified Superheterodyne 6.
