  • The Science Fair 28-129 solar operated radio can be powered by sunlight or by strong artificial light.  It can also be operated by a 1.5 volt "AA" cell.  It came complete with a selenium photo cell and earphone.  The radio is a simple crystal detector using a germanium transistor to amplify the audio for the earphone.

    The 28-129 was one of a number of Radio Shack "P-box" kits using a perforated plastic chassis that could withstand direct soldering.
