Information about this specific radio, with the serial number: 307511.

This radio belonged to Dr. Mario Neves, who was a well known portuguese reporter and member of the governing body after the Portuguese revolution in 1974.

Dr. Mario Neves was the first Portuguese embassador in USSR in 1975 and the radio was ofefred to him by the staff of the USSR Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Later Dr. Mario Neves retruned to Portugal and kept the radio stored for years. After his death most of his vast assets was donated to public institutions, but a smaller part was sold, like this radio.

All the photos published here belongs to the same radio.

The grandson of Dr. Mario Neves asked his friend Joao Pinto ("lisbonfriend" of eBay) to to put the radio for sale on eBay, but it was not sold. One year later the radio was for sale in a local Portuguese site and I bought it.

That's the story of this specific radio.

This MRP Model 103 special limited edition radio offered to the deputies of the Soviet Supreme during the 50th anniversary of USSR commemorations can not be from 1967.

It must be from 1972, the year of the 50th anniversary of USSR foundation.

That is why we know this radio was based in the chassis of the Riga 103-2 (from 1972).

For those who don't know about the difference between the October Revolution (1917) and USSR foundation (1972), I would sugest some reading, starting in the Internet Wikipedia, for instance.

As a matter of fact, medals were produced as well to celebrate the 50th year of USSR in 1972, along with this excellent MRP Model 103 radio:

"50th Anniversary of the USSR, Commemorative Medal, 1972.

Silver gilt, enamels. Exquisite quality. Medallion is 27.3 mm wide; total weight with suspension is 20.7 g. Reverse of the suspension device shows "MMD" mark of the Moscow Mint. The medallion is two-piece construction, with superimposed Lenin's bust in silver. The reverse is inscribed "60th Anniversary of the Creation of the Union of SSR. Moscow, Kremlin. December 1972". Excellent condition.

This medal was issued exclusively to the attendees of the anniversary ceremony in Kremlin. Among them were members of the Supreme Soviet, top echelon of the Party leadership and prominent Communist leaders from around the world."
