The RCA Carfone 50 is a VHF transceiver system, 30-50 MHz band, crystal controlled with 1 or 2 channels. Mobile units for vehicles powered off 12 volt battery with dynamotor for generating B+ for transmitter. Mobile units had trunk mount main unit plus small control head inside vehicle. Base station powered off115 VAC, with larger main unit and smaller "remote" control unit. Speakers were separate units for both mobile and base units.

The similar Carfone 150 system operated in the 148-174 MHz VHF band.
