  • Notes
  • "The Mini-fi system consists of two high performance loudspeakers mounted in a totally sealed enclosure. In the design stage Rola engineers had to overcome a fundamental problem. To achieve satisfactory bass performance it is essential to baffle the bass speaker in such a way that cancellation of low frequency sound waves between the front and rear surfaces of the speaker cone does not occur. Totally sealing the enclosure overcomes this problem, however an additional factor is introduced. The small air volume within the totally sealed enclosure places a high acoustic load on the cone causing a rise in bass resonance together with a severe cut-off below resonance. Under such conditions conventional loudspeakers cannot provide satisfactory bass reproduction. The entirely new C65-0 woofer is a high compliance, long excursion speaker that does not cut-off sharply below resonance. It will operate against high acoustic loads and yet still maintain rich, clean bass down to 35 Hz. During production the Mini-fi enclosure is sealed to ensure that air leaks do not interfere with the linearity of the internal air compliance. The interior of the enclosure is totally filled with light teased vegetable fibre absorbent material to minimise internal standing waves. Every woofer and tweeter is individually tested before installation and every complete Mini-fi system is response traced to ensure that it equals or betters published specifications. Each system is fully guaranteed for twelve months from date of manufacture and a lifetime after sales service is available direct from the factory. Rola can provide on-the-spot test facilities and application advice for purchasers to ensure as-new performance at all times."

"The C65-0 woofer and the 5FX tweeter are a carefully matched combination providing exceptionally smooth response from 38 Hz to 19,000 Hz. Under anechoic conditions the response is within ± 6 dB when the Mini-fi is driven by an amplifier providing 6 dB of bass boost at 100 Hz (ref. 800 Hz). Nominal impedance of this system is 8 ohms, however modern amplifiers accepting loads up to 15 ohms may be used satisfactorily. Maximum power handling capacity is 15 watts RMS-sufficient to handle the output of most high fidelity amplifiers. For best results amplifiers of from 8 to 15 watts per channel are recommended. Resonant boom or one-note-bass is eliminated from the Mini-fi. The cone resonance is effectively damped by both the acoustic air load and the 12,000 Gauss magnetic unit. Intermodulation distortion is 10W and transients throughout the range are crisp and well defined. Every feature of the Mini-fi has been chosen after exhaustive tests to ensure that the system will give lasting high fidelity listening pleasure."
