The first in the series of SME 3009 tonearms which continued in production until 2003. Famed for its removable headshell which became an industry standard. Developed by the founder of SME, Alastair Robertson-Aikman. With pillar bearings, diamond lapped to mirror finish, the arm is carried on virtually frictionless knife edges, automatic lowering and raising by hydro-mechanical control, sliding base for instant tracking correction, vertical height adjustment, screened output socket and plug and the latest balance system without springs provides for lateral and longitudinal balance of arm. The stylus pressure can be varied from 0-5 grammes. The Series 1 bakelite headshell was made by Ortofon for SME.
Similar to the SME 3012 Series 1 tonearm which is 12 inches long.
