    The New Mantel Receiver

A NEW Universal Mantel Receiver has taken its place among the Stromberg-Carlson lines for 1935. This is a universal type receiver, incorporating a Philips barretter tube which ensures satisfactory operation in spite of severe line voltage fluctuations. In fact this receiver may operated at any line voltage between 160 and 260 volts.

The valves used as the philips CK1 Octode, CF2, intermediate frequency at 450 k.c. per sec., CF1 Second Detector, CL2 Output Pentode, and the new CY2 Rectifier. The CY2 Rectifier valve is of special interest being designed for 240 volt operation.

This receiver will operate on D.C. as well as A.C. lines, and owing to the inclusion of the barretter tube no internal voltage adjustments are required regardless of the line voltage. The power consumption from the mains is approximately 60 watts.

The receiver incorporates the Philips Type P. Socket for the new series of valves with pinless bases. The heavy gauge steel chassis is cadmium plated before being spayed with duco. A 6 inch dynamic speaker unit is provided, and the tone from this receiver in spite of its small size is paticularly pleasing.

The sensitivity is claimed to be 5 microvolts absolute.
