The radio has a solar panel on the front to charge a rechargeable NiCd 1.2 V coin style cell (170 mAh) and in turn power the radio. Optionally an external 3 V DC PSU can charge the cell.
The earphones act as on/off switch and FM aerial. Ceramic Filters are used for AM and FM IF, and a single surface mount IC for AM/FM radio.
