  • Western Coil was started in 1915 by William Turnor Lewis and his father. In 1920 they made the Western Coil Type A crystal radio using a Signal Crystal Detector. It was packaged in a small wooden box with a hinged cover. The radio was on the right side and a compartment on the left side held the headset.
