These big elephant ear shaped loudspekaers were initially used for Yamaha Electones and for (bass) guitar amplifiers. Some loudspeaker makers (e.g. TEAC) used the unit as bass driver (up to 5 kHz), complemented with mid range and high frequency range loudspeakers.
The unit is very efficient especially for ultra low bass sounds and has a robust aluminium diecast frame. It uses a strong permanent magnet (Yamaha patented). The voice coil has a diameter of 66 mm and an impedance of 8 ohms and is coupled to the big diaphragm made from pressed styrene foam.
