Diode "2.5 Raytheon"?

Hello,

when working on the Sterling models in RM I came across some power supply schematics - see Rider's Vol.3, page Sterling 3-4. Some of these power supplies contain rectifier devices without heaters, labelled ?? Raytheon. Model R-96 (schematic included) shows a 2.5 Raytheon. Can someone shed more light on this and other similar devices?

Raytheon was known to me as a maker of gaseous rectifiers for "B" power supplies. The posted schematic clearly shows a power supply designed to charge batteries. After a little internet research I found information on the Raytheon "A" rectifier in the August 1927 issue of "Radio News". It´s a cold, apparently electrolytic rectifier cell for low voltages and high currents, designed for battery charging. Maximum reverse voltage is 22V, maximum operating current around 2A. An example of a commercial battery charger using these elements is given, made by the National Co.

Maybe this is the element shown in model R-96.

Found on the Internet - not quite the "2.5 Raytheon" of my original question. The rectifier described in this PDF document (source Radio News, October 1926) is used in the Sterling R-81.
