Hello Omer,
this is indeed amazing, since it deals about a "female" receiver:
"die Volksempfängerin !"
The ending "in" indicates a female being !
As for example:
"Lehrer" = teacher (male), "Lehrerin" = teacher (female)
Best Regards,
Jacob

A very simple question

Hello Jacob,
Indeed, it seems the set has become female! This little of German I know (as regrettably I do not speak German, but can understand enough of a service manual to align a radio!), but it has perplexed me for some time - what is the plural of "Volksempfänger" ?
Regards,
Mike.

Dear Mike,
The plural of "Volksempfänger" is "Volksempfänger".
Der Volksempfänger = single one
Die Volksempfänger = plural , several Volksempfänger

Dear Rüdiger,
Thank you for the reply - that has answered my question. I see that German, like English, has words in which the plural is the same as the singular, and that "Volksempfänger" is one of those.
Perhaps it is time for me to visit Deutsche Welle's web site and download the beginner's language course...
Best regards,
Mike.
