? grundig: Ch= CS155U/MS; Locarno 3/U
Since today, I have a 1970 Grundig "Locarno 3/U" console (solid-state AM/FM/SW with Grundig "Automatic 36" record changer).
The sound is very low and distorted when the "balance" control knob is turned to the left side speakers. The left side speakers are only playing minimally. I tried using "Deoxit" (contact cleaner) on the balance potentiometer, but it made no difference. Can these potentiometers be taken apart and cleaned? Do you have any recommendations for finding the problem?
Otherwise, the radio is nice and complete - including all original documentation. Thanks for your time.

balance control resolved
The problem was resolved by replacing the 1 Amp, 20 mm slow blow fuse.

uploading schematic - file size is a problem
I am trying to upload the schematic for this radio, but I can't meet all the requirements.
01) Scanned at 300 dpi - yes
02) Grey scale (black and white) - yes
03) PNG format - yes
04) Less than 6000 x 6000 pixels - yes
05) Less than 300kB - impossible - not if you want to read it!
How can I meet the first four parameters and also keep the file under 300 kB?

stereo lamp 6 v, 50 mA, (0.3 W) screw base
FYI -
The tuning dial and signal strength lamps were replaced with #40 (Type 40) lamps. However, I was unable to locate a source for the 6v, 50mA (.3W) screw base lamp for the stereo indicator (from the usual sources) in the U.S.A.
The key was to include "0.3W" in an Internet search - and I got a hit in the U.K.
They accept PayPal and it was an easy ordering experience. I selected non-Euro Royal mail as the carrier (UPS rates were extremely high) and the total for six lamps (minimum order) came to: £13.50 GBP ($21.31).

File Size
Dear Jeff,
probably, you forgot one step:
01) Scanned at 300 dpi - yes
02) Grey scale (black and white) - yes
Reduce "colours" to 4
03) PNG format - yes
04) Less than 6000 x 6000 pixels - yes
05) Less than 300kB - impossible - not if you want to read it!
The procedure is described in the FAQ:
HOWTO scan and create good schematics with a free picture program.
Alternatively you may try a method which I usually do, using IrfanView:
01) San with 1200 dpi with B/W only (not grey) : "oversampling method"
02) Reduce scan size to max. 6000 pixels (or less) and 300 dpi: "downsampling"
03) Reduce "colours" to 4
04) Edit colour palette: "white" to 255 and "black" to 000
05) Save as PNG file.
So with 5 steps only you will get excellent scans of schematics with a minimum in file size.

Dietmar

Grundig: Ch= CS155U/MS; Locarno 3/U
Jeff Miller was looking for a schematic and I wondered if he ever found one?
Did you ever get a shcematic for it?

Yes, the schematic came with it, and I was trying to upload it to the model page. I finally succeeded. Thank you.
