The variable capacitor is mounted wrong (crooked).

thank you for the information.

I'll remove the capacitor and I'll try to rebuild it.

Probably the black wire is connected to the capacitor's "moving" side, so I should connect the red wire to the fixed side of the capacitor.

By the way, I have just another question about the band spread push button:

has this button 2 stable positions, up and down?

I mean, stay the button down also without pushing on it?

This question comes because in my radio the steel ring under the button was lost (please see the attached picture).

I put a similar ring and the button is correctly pushed-up by the ring force but the mechanism doesn't act as 2 stable positions.

I hope I was clear.

As I can remember from mine, your radio had missing a small spring, something like a small paper clip, with V form. This "spring" act as a elastic union between both switches, the upper and lower.

The plain screw is used to adjust the position.

during the weekend I rebuilded the varicap as showed in the attached pictures.

I think it should be right.

I think it's ok now. My radio have this contact broken and I have done the same repair. Put some paint or laque on screw/nut to prevent a unscrew.

Good idea and probably could be useful  to glue or  tighten the two plastic parts, top and bottom, in order to avoid variation in capacitance due to the distance alteration (see first picture from Herr Bauer).

Loctite and other types of glue use solvents that could evaporate and solve the small dielectric plastic !!. So beware with this. Put only a very small amount of paint (better if it's water based )

Of course, the band spread  is a two position switch, with locking. On first push down, swith must lock and stay in lower position. When you push it again, the switch release and stay in upper position. This lock and release it's done, as I can remember, with the upper part of the switch (the brown one in your photo).

In fact. Probably something is broken/missed.
