The R-23/ARC-5 long wave navigation command set receiver is very similair to the SCR-274/BC453. It is a newer version with another second IF penthode 12SF7, siilair to the 12 SK7, but with an extra AVC-diode.

There is a later -A variant with improved AVC and a higher level of audio output. This -A variant is identical to the R-148/ARC-5X except for the wiring of the vacuum tube heaters. The R-148/ARC-5X is designed for 14 volts power supply.

The R-24/ARC-5 medium wave navigation receiver, frequency range 520-1500 kHz, IF 239 kHz, is electrically identical.

The short wave communication receivers R-25/ARC-5, freq:1,5-3,0 mHz, R-26/ARC-5, freq:3,0-6,0 mHz, and R-27/ARC-5, freq:6,0-9,1 mHz, have a slightly different AVC circuit.

Eventually a VHF range model came into use: R-28/ARC-5, freq:100-156 mHz. This frequency is still in use for Airborne Radio Communications.
