Hello,

I have what I think is a BSR Monarch UA12, but I cannot find any identifying marks on the player, and I can't see the difference between the 12 and the 14, other than available color schemes.

I would be happy to upload pics and data if someone can help me identify my record changer.

Thank you,

Mike Waitz

Hello Michael,

the difference I see is the power supply.

UA 12: 110-120V / 60 Hz

UA 14: 100-125; 200-250V

Please have a look at the uploaded manuals.

Hope this helps to identify your set.

Thank you, Michael. That makes sense. I'm a novice in such things but it looks like this is indeed a 12.
I will get photos and data uploaded.

All my best.

The dual voltage model will have been designed for the 50 Hz market, whereas the single/low voltage model will have been designed for the 60 Hz one. With a squirrel cage induction motor, the motor speed is proportional to the line frequency, which consequently necessitated different size motor drive pulleys for the 50 Hz and 60 Hz markets in order that the turntable rotated at the correct speeds. This may be an additional factor to explain the model number differences if the only other difference is a cosmetic one.

Kind regards,

Stan

Hi Stan,
Surprisingly this makes sense as well. I write "surprisingly" as I'm a moron when it comes to electronics, though I guess I'm learning some things.
Thanks for the additional info and best!
Mike
