On Shortwave (HF) this is a "dual conversion" receiver. The first 10.7MHz IF amp and two 10.7MHz ceramic filters are used on VHF-FM and also HF. The second 10.7MHz IF amp is a mixer (presumably fed by fixed 10.24MHz approx) on SW down to the 455KHz IF. On MW (BC) it appears to be single conversion.
It's a pity for Europe, Parts of former USSR and North Africa that it has no LW. I've noticed that most of the Asian portable AM/FM sets even so called "world receivers" on the market recently (2010 to 2012) don't have LW any more. Was there a more European version of this set with LW?

no Longwave coverage on ICF-5900W
Hallo Michael,
both samples of the ICF-5900W I own (sold in German language regions) come without longwave coverage,
in fact even in the Books from R. Lichte as well as on Sony's Service Manual, there is nothing mentionned about a version covering longwaves; the US, UK and European models seem to different only as far as the external power supply is concerned.
