Co-workers! Unknown radio, very bad picture. Zoomed in a little, the speaker grille is familiar. Anyone recognize it or be home-made? Br, STS

It's like a stripped McMichael Twin Supervox

I think there was a replica transistor model with similar styling

One can clearly see that the case is quite similar, but the knobs show that there is a different chassis. Also one can see that it is not a cabinet of the Twin Supervox RV8 which was reused but a most similar cabinet. Still:

At present we show 177 models of which 107 show at least one picture for McMichael Ltd. We can see a few twin loudspeaker models, but the one I moved the picture to is the only one which is that similar. Reason: When we have a post sticky to this model - by using the model to do the forum post - this can be detected by a person who looks up the picture gallery and the chance is much higher that we get some more input. We can get answers also from guests who use the bottom-link "contact".

Cordially,
Ernest

Yes, it's only copied, but I'm nearly sure I saw the commercial transistor based radio.

Clearly has LW, MW and FM on the scale

Yes it is more like. But the original may be what I asked for, not a copy. approx. I can get the device in 30 days and we'll know more.

According to an old Worthpoint capture of ebay:

The Steepletone NR-1200S is plain, but otherwise similar to the earlier mottled model. Beige wood body and black base. The radio is 153/4" (400mm) wide x 9" (228mm) tall x 53/4" (145mm) deep

See worthopedia/vintage-ww2-1940s-nostalgic-423837816

So the inspiration is likely the McMichael model, but the OP photo is probably of a Steepletone model, perhaps the NR1200 with the finish stripped.

It's not in the 2020 catalogue.

I searched pic-click and past ebay listings.

The model is listed on Amazon, unavailable and no image:

ASIN: B0002DELFA

Date first available at Amazon.co.uk: 16 Mar. 2006

Also found is identical front style on "cash converters" and "worthpoint", but two different finishes:

Steepletone nr-1251 CXF

STEEPLETONE NX1251CXF

There is a car style slot for a cassette on one side.

Probably the X is an error

On Amazon ASIN: B0002DELFK Date first available at Amazon.co.uk: 16 Mar. 2006

But not available and no image.

Cassette version was also on Gumtree last year:

A superb fully working mains powered radio and cassette player. ULTRA Radio 'Radios Richest Choice '. Steepletone Model No: NR-1251 CXF. 20 cm Height 32 cm Width 14 cm Depth Ad ID: 1342416871

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a 1994 replica radio. :(

I suspected it was. So Soundmaster is using the same source as the Steepletone models.
