The Amazon Echo (1st Generation) is the initial model of a brand of voice-controlled smart speakers developed by Amazon. The Echo connects to the internet via WiFi and is used to access the Alexa Voice Service. The device is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, making phone calls, and providing weather, traffic, and other real-time information. It also can be used to control several smart devices acting as a home automation hub. The 1st Generation Echo also included a remote.
The introductory price for the Echo was $199, although it was initially available to Amazon Prime members for $99.
