  • The Amazon Tap is a portable bluetooth speaker developed by Amazon.  The Tap connects to the internet via WiFi  and is used to access the Alexa Voice Service.  The device is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, and other real-time information.  It also can be used to control several smart devices acting as a home automation hub. 

    The Amazon Tap has some significant differences with the other Amazon Echo devices.  These include

    • Normal mode of operation is to access the Alexa Voice Service by "tapping" the microphone button on the device, although the device can be reconfigured to respond directly to voice commands.
    • The device can be removed from the charging base and used as a portable unit.
    • The device can not be used to make phone calls or communicate with other Echo devices.
