This AMP 125 Mb/s Optical Transceiver was designed for 1300 nm FDDI (Fibre Distributed Data Interface) use and mates with the AMP 501780-1 FDDI Connector via a 501930-1 FSD (Fixed Shroud Duplex) transceiver adapter. However, it has a custom metal 24-pin package with standoffs that is not compatible with the industry standard 9, 13 and 22-pin models that evolved later. The pin finish is 0.8 µm gold over 1.3 µm nickel.
The transceiver operates from a 5 V DC supply and has differential PECL level data inputs and outputs. It has a built-in signal detect circuit and user programmable output quieting.
Faster networking standards such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet have now largely superseded FDDI.
