- Notes
- The Hypot Junior was introduced in 1948 in answer to a growing need for a portable, inexpensive, yet accurate instrument for applying high voltage tests to a wide variety of electrical equipment and components. The Hypot Junior is properly referred to as High Potential Dielectric Strength Tester. Other names for this type of tester include “breakdown” testers and “hi-pots.” Testing is done by apply up to 1.50 kilovolts to the equipment or component under test. Leakage can then be observed by a Light Indicator which glows when current exceeds 0.5 milliamps. A Breakdown Light glows when arcing, sparking, or corona occurs.
