  • Notes
  • This is an upgrade of the Astor M5D and M6D radios with which it shares a common rear case.

It has 5 silicon transistors in the first stages and three OC types in the output stage. Two of these transistors have "Flag" heatsinks and drive the 15 Ω speaker in a "Push - Pull" arrangement through a matching transformer. All transistor are silicon types. Output transistors OC951 & OC955 are a complimetary matched pair & are sensibly equivalent to BD137/BD138. There are 2 silicon diodes to provide full wave rectification of the power supply.

The tuning capacitor is driven by the dial cord and there is a tone control. The schematic is not included inside the case but the dial cord arrangement is. This radio is heavier than the M6D as all controls are mounted on a piece of 1.2 mm galvanised metal. This links all the controls for earthing purposes and differs from the earlier radios where the metal control shafts are brought through the case with no provision for a safety earth.

Cabinet colours available in mustard, ice white and teak woodgrain finish.

Whilst the Model Number on my example is shown on the case bottom as MF026 the designation on the slide that releases the power cord from the case is MFO 26. I.E MIKE FOXTROT ZERO TWO NONE versus MIKE FOXTROT OSCAR (space) TWO NINE.
