The FP51 Automatic Record Changer from Bendix Radio and Television (Bendix Aviation corporation) is a cam operated, drop type changer. It can also be called push type changer with an extra step in the record dropping process. After the record is pushed off, three blades catch the record by its edge about 1/4 inch below the spindle ledge. This removes the weight of the stack from the record. Then the blades retract simultaneously, allowing the record to drop flat. Technical literature can be found under P51. Most of these changers were used by Farnsworth-Capehart, but Bendix sold it as FP51.
It plays and changes a series of twelve 10-inch records or ten 12-inch records of standard dimensions and automatically shuts off on the last record. Impedance at 1000 cycles is 200,000 ohms with voltage output 5 to 1. Needle pressure is 1 1/4 oz and turntable speed is 78.26 (+/- 2 rpm).
Succeeders: P71, P72, and P73 (1947-1949) were called the Capehart Gravity Changer. This was the first successful umbrella spindle that required no side shelves or leveling arms. These changers take 12" and 10" records intermixed.
