Tone clarifier

Recently I got this item which I never have seen before.

It is a bakelite case with the inscription tone-clarifier and IDEAL prov.pat. There are two pairs of connectors - male and female, connected with each other. In between is a 7-positions selector.

Inside, in parallel with the connectors is a capacitor-column with taps at 0-2-4-6-8-10-12 nF, chosen by the selector.

I presume that this device has been used with the vintage receivers without built-in speaker to modify the tone. If connected between the receiver output and the speaker or earphones, it cuts off the higher frequencies and so modifies the tone. Cut-off frequency is chosen by the selector.

I would greatly appreciate any information, such as the manufacturer, year of production, etc.
