Birmingham Sound Reproducers, Ltd. has introduced a new high-fidelity receiver with advanced features. The receiver, priced at 85 guineas, offers a flat audio response from 40 to 12,000 cycles per second and includes an automatic record changer with a piezo-electric phonograph pick-up.
The system employs two loudspeakers: a moving coil type and a high-frequency unit.Key features of the receiver include:
- Adjustable selectivity: A continuous control varies the coupling between band-pass coils in six IF tuned circuits, allowing the received band to be adjusted from 24 kc (for 12,000-cycle audio response) to hair-width selectivity.
- "Whistle filter": Set at 9 kc, this filter reduces interstation interference between European broadcasting stations. It is automatically bypassed when the receiver is set for reception above 9,000 cycles per second.
- Visual tuning, delayed a.v.c., and inter-carrier noise suppression.
- Adjustable noise suppression: A separate control allows continuous adjustment of receiver sensitivity from its maximum (one microvolt) to a level suitable for the strongest signals.
- Resistance-capacity coupling in audio stages, with the final stage delivering six watts to the speaker.
- Dual European wavebands: 190 to 570 metres and 800 to 2,000 metres.
- Eight tubes, including the rectifier.
The selectivity control integrates multiple functions, including the whistle filter and high-frequency speaker activation, all managed through a single knob.
This innovative British receiver combines advanced audio technology with user-friendly controls, offering a high-quality listening experience across various reception conditions.
