The Capehart 500 series could be called an "Ultra-Luxury Changer" - with a great receiver, built as 500 Empire for 5 seasons and as 501 Spanish for two seasons: 500E (1936/37), 500F (1937/38), 500G (1938/39), 500H (1939/40) and 500K (1940/41). As 501H (1939/40) and 501K (1940/41). Some were custom-built - until civil production had to be given up because of the entry in the WW2. It can also be seen in the movie from 1939, "Intermezzo" with Leslie Howard and Ingrid Bergman as stars.

We don't know of any factory information referencing the 501 nor factory literature showing the 501 "Spanish style" cabinet. One member knows of 9 Capehart 500s that exist in various states of repair. Collectors think that possibly 50 Empire-500-style cabinets were built. In the existing model 500, cabinets have numbers stamped into them going up to #50. We do not know if all the Empire cabinets were ever used. Currently, we know of 3 of the 501, "Spanish" cabinet Capeharts. Collectors have named the 501 cabinet "Spanish"...

The 501 cabinet was built by the Century furniture company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Grand Rapids furniture manufacturers were famous for high quality, hi style furniture. The cabinet has a clean, almost modern look and is exceptionally well-built.  There are "Spanish" cabinets with model G and model H electronics.

The Capehart 400 series were introduced for season 1931/32 without suffix, followed by A 1932/33, B 1933/34 etc. through to season 1948-50. See here the "Common information for the Capehart model pages for the 1930s and 1940s".

Further explanation about Capehart 500 and 501 cabinets. The 500 models start with model E. The 500 has the walnut cabinet and was called in Capehart literature, Empire. The 501, from what I can determine, was offered starting with the model G. I have never seen an advertisement showing the 501 cabinet. I also have never seen a name given (by Capehart)  for the 501 cabinet. By looking at extent model 500 cabinets, we believe Capehart manufactured (or had made) 50 Capehart 500, Empire cabinets. Whatever electronic components offered when the customer ordered the 500, would be installed. The 501 was offered later.... so less were produced. Additionally, I suspect the 501 cabinet was more expensive. All 500 and 501 models contain 3 speakers and 3 amps.
