  • Anotaciones
  • The Simplex Auto is a semi-automatic bug key or a RIGHT-ANGLE morse code transmitting bug key. Compared to 'in-line' bugs, right-angle bugs have the pendulum mounted transversely on the base. The Australian slang word for bug key is JIGGER.

The long thin 'dot' contact spring is on the inside of the rubber bit, so that the rubber pulls the spring away from the dot contact. This gives the adjustment for 'thick' and 'thin' dots. The pendulum (reed) consists of an arm along which the weight can be moved. The position of the weight determines the speed at which the pendulum oscillates and therefore the speed of sending. Please note that (on many Simplex Auto bugs) the bar, carrying the bakelite finger and thumb piece, is joined to the remainder of the arm. It is only joined, so that a comfortable working height can be chosen.

The fifth model model had changed wording on the label. The words 'Telegraphist C.T.O.' were dropped, perhaps indicating that Cohen had left the C.T.O. and moved to the Post Office side of the PMG Department (1934). The vibrating arm was round with one flat side. The flat circuit connection under the base was replaced by a round cable.

Priced at £3/7/6 in the Owners Manual.
