- Notes
-
"Q" type cylinder graphophone, Columbia, circa 1900. This type was slightly smaller than the "B", although similar in design. One marked difference is the straight player-horn connection, well illustrated in this side view. The long horn and its stand were available from retailers who supplied them as « extras ». Very few Edison or Columbia machines left the factory with these horns and this one, in this case, was made in London.
Original description from: “Fonografi e Grammofoni” by Christopher Proudfoot, Italian edition “Silvana Editoriale” 1980.
Grafofono a cilindri tipo "Q", Columbia, 1900 circa.
Edizione Italiana Silvana Editoriale, 1980.
Reiss lists this as manufactured from 1898-1908 (3 "Q" models) and cost $5 USD (cabinet was $2.50 USD extra) when first introduced. It is common for 2 models and with an estimated value of $500, and fairly rare for the "fancy Sears base" model (c. 1904) with an estimated value of $1,500 USD (2007).
