The Datum Model 4200 is a digital cassette tape transport that was designed for OEM applications. The drive uses servo-controlled reel motors, rather than a capstan/pinch roller, to maintain constant tape speed and tension at high speeds. The take-up reel motor controls the tape speed, using feedback derived from the shaft velocity information. The supply reel motor is in a servo loop whose feedback is tape tension information derived from motor torque and shaft velocity.
The reel servos maintain constant tape speed within ±10%.
The deck is a heavy die-casting and uses ±0.001" ceramic/stainless steel reference edge tape guides.
For use with certified computer grade data cassettes containing 300 ft of 0.15 in wide tape.NRZI, PE or CRB recording. NRZI to 800 fcpi; PE to 1600 fcpi (800 bpi).
