    Amberola I phonograph, Edison 1910. Introduced in 1909, the Amberola I was Edison's answer to the Victrola. It was equipped with a transverse spindle, which moved under the fixed reproducer. The first examples, like the one in my photo showing the cylinder compartment, played both two- and four-minute cylinders, but from 1911 only the four-minute Opera model engine was used. The base plate and top are normally finished in brown and reddish enamel. [1]
