    Brief technical details

The E5/G5 was made in CHINA by DEGEN . DEGEN released a similar model, the DE1103, that shares the same Receiver PCB assembly although with different reference label. While the E5/G5 uses a digital dial display with more comprehensive operation features, the DE1103 uses an analog like dial scale with a small digital frequency display. Another DE1103 version using DSP technology was later released by DEGEN.

The E5/G5 uses two PCB assemblies.

The MCU PCB reference "E5C 060208" uses two processors; one unmarked under blob style (U801) managing the rotary encoder/keys and LCD; another HT46R23 8-bit MCU (U802) managing the radio features including memory presets/labels with the help of a ATMEL524 (AT24C512) 512KB EEPROM (U803). A couple of LDO regulators (BR 55 89 (U804) and 7533-1 (U805)), a couple of transistors (2SC1623-L6 NPN (Q801) and S8550-2TY (Q802), and a few diodes do power supply and control functions.

The Receiver PCB reference "E5A-II" contains the circuits for FM and AM reception. A TA7358 (IC1) FM Front-End passes the 10.7MHz IF signal to the TA2057NG (IC2) for further processing. A LC72137 (IC4) PLL controls the FM IC1 oscillator and AM 1st oscillator. The audio signal from IC2 is passed to a CD1622CB (IC5) audio amplifier driving the built-in 25 Ohm 1 Watt speaker in BTL mode, and the earphones jack in dual channel mode. A LM358 dual opamp drives the audio line-out jack. The SW band uses a dual-conversion circuit; the front-end uses discrete components and one NM-13 hybrid IC (IC6). The SSB/BFO is handled by another unidentified hybrid IC  (IC7).
