The Fender Dual Professional, introduced in 1947, marked a significant milestone as the company's first dual-speaker amplifier. This innovative model featured two 10-inch Jensen PM10-C speakers, setting it apart from previous designs.
The amplifier's aesthetic was characterized by a wood cabinet wrapped in brown mohair Tolex/Tweed and grill cloth, with a distinctive vertical chrome grill strip adorning the front.Under the hood, the Dual Professional boasted a robust tube configuration. The preamp section utilized two 6SJ7 tubes, while the power stage employed two metal-envelope 6L6 tubes. A cathode-biased design was implemented, and a 5U4 tube was the rectifier.
One notable feature was the Lo Gain In jack, which allowed for the insertion of high-output devices into the signal path. This functionality was akin to a modern "Power Amp In" connection, showcasing Fender's forward-thinking approach. The amplifier's unique design included two output transformers, each mounted directly to the speaker frames.
In the fall of 1947, Fender renamed the Dual Professional to the Super, though its core design remained largely unchanged. This rebranding marked the beginning of the Super's long and influential legacy in the world of guitar amplification.
