  • The FUNcube Dongle is a software-defined radio (SDR) receiver developed as part of the FUNcube educational satellite project by AMSAT-UK. There are two versions of the FUNcube Dongle:

    FUNcube Dongle Entry-Level

    The entry-level FUNcube Dongle was designed specifically for educational outreach purposes. Its key features include:

    • Targeted at receiving signals from the FUNcube satellite and other educational satellites
    • Frequency coverage of 150 kHz to 240 MHz and 420 MHz to 1.9 GHz
    • Connects to a computer via USB and appears as a "USB Audio Device"
    • Compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems

    FUNcube Dongle Pro+

    The Pro version offers expanded capabilities:

    • Wider frequency coverage from 64 MHz to 1,700 MHz (with a small gap between 1100-1270 MHz)
    • Intended for more advanced radio enthusiasts and applications beyond just satellite reception
    • Physically identical to the Base version externally

    Both versions share some common characteristics:

    • Compact USB dongle form factor
    • Over 200 components including hardware front-end filters
    • Ability to power an antenna pre-amplifier via the feedline
    • Female SMA connector for antenna connection
    • Functions as a fully integrated, wide-band software-defined receiver

    The FUNcube Dongle was conceived as the "ground segment" for receiving signals from the FUNcube satellite, but its versatility as an SDR allows for much broader applications in radio reception and experimentation.
