    Xtal-controlled CW TX for the 80-, 40-, 20- and 10-m-HAM-bands.

Crystal-controlled amateur band transmitter kit.  The bands covered are switched as 80, 40, 20 and 10/11.  The 15 meter band is also covered by way of the 10/11 switch position as described in the manual which has a chart of the recommended crystals for each band.  Power (input) was variously advertised as 35 watts or 30 watts, or as 25-30 watts as described in the manual.  All of the bands rely on doubling with the exception of the 80 meter band which is straight-through.  The 80 meter band does not tune the oscillator plate, limiting output power on 80 meters.  Oscillator tuning is switched in for the other bands.  Sockets are available for connecting a modulator (never sold by Heathkit) or a VFO (for the Heathkit VF-1)

The first AT-1 ad in Radio and Television News appears in the May 1953 issue.  Lewis McCoy wrote a review article in the October 1955 QST magazine with steps to improve the AT-1 output power by avoiding the need for doubling in the final and also tuning the oscillator plate for the 80 meter band.
