    Servicing Hints:

The weak point in this machine is the original NiCad batteries. After nearly 4 decades these have failed or become unreliable unless they have been replaced. NiMh types can be substituted and the batteries are carried in a removable section of the back panel. The pack can be replaced without soldering.

A faulty battery pack caused the Current Limiting (R5 10Ω 1W) resistor to overheat and damage the power supply circuit board.

The wide power supply voltages can be understood when the Power Supply unit has three Voltage Regulator ICs and 5 Zener Diodes incorporated. A pack of three Lithium batteries can be connected to the 'scope via the back panel and the scope is thus truly portable.

The 12 V power is DC only and the other supply must be AC.

There are a dozen ICs in total and 24 transistors on three Circuit Boards.

The change from 110 volts to 240 (nominal) is accomplished with a slide switch but this is not referenced in the set-up instructions. The switch is visible once the cover is removed and is shown in both the Power Supply Layout Diagram and that Schematic.

Access to the circuit boards requires that the 'scope be disassembled, but fortunately, the boards and the CRT are connected with plug-and-sockets.
