Data plate indicates that this transformer is of "Simon Design". Emil J. Simon produced equipment for the U.S. Navy during WWI - one of the items produced was the 1/2 K.W., 500 cycle Navy Type Simon Transmitter. This transmitter was of the quenched spark gap design.
The wooden base is not original, but is used to display this transformer.
