Advertised as "The Pilot's Preference", the Learavian RM-402C receiver had both a general coverage long wave band from 195 to 410 kHz for Airways aural navigation ranges and beacons and a shortwave band from 2.2 to 6.2 MHz for monitoring pilot - tower communications. The receiver also covered the broadcast band from 540 to 1500 kHz. The self-contained radio was primarily designed for the private pilot who may have been flying an airplane with no or minimal electrical systems. It included a microphone input allowing for intercom use in the cockpit. The loop antenna was self-contained. A coaxial RCA phono-type jack was included for use with an external antenna. The weight with batteries was advertised as "14 pounds three ounces". The outer covering of the wood box was luggage canvas advertised as available in either beige tweed or wine color. The power cord contains a third resistance wire of 200 ohms for dropping the filament voltage to 85 for the 35W4 and 50B5 tubes when operating from 115 volts AC-DC.
