The Magnavox 2-ST283 is an AC operated 17 tube combination AM/FM stereo receiver and stereo phonograph. Has Qty(2) PM 12" speakers and Qty(4) PM 5" speakers. This model was the "Far Eastern Contemporary" style stereo ensemble to accompany the Magnavox 2-MV512K television. It was also sold separately as a "Space Separated Stereo".
This model consists of Qty(2) cabinets, the tuner, amplifier and FM multiplexer were mounted in one cabinet with the speakers for one channel, while the record changer was mounted in the other cabinet with the speakers for the other channel. A special 3-wire power cable ran between them, so that power to the record changer could be controlled by the bandswitch, and also so the changer could turn the amplifier off when the record changer switched off. Stereo outputs from the changer ran in their own separate cables using RCA-style jacks.
The tuner uses chassis 57-18, the amplifier uses chassis 93-02 and the optional FM Multiplexer uses chassis 70-02.
