This twin-channel pulse generator has been designed by Marshall of Cambridge as a universal instrument for the development and general testing of electronic equipment. For ease of handling the generator is provided with a separate power unit. In addition to the facilities normally offered in a pulse generator, precise measurements of the resolving time of coincidence circuits and scalers, triggering characteristics of discriminators, and the overload performance of pulse amplifiers are readily made. A pre-pulse is provided for the purpose of triggering auxiliary apparatus. The A and B channel output pulses are independently variable in amplitude, duration, delay relative to the pre-pulse, and polarity. In each channel the output pulse may be obtained at high level or at low level, where rise-times are an order faster. The two channels are completely independent apart from a common pulse repetition frequency but the outputs from the two channels may be additionally mixed if so desired so that the combined output is available at either of the output sockets. Delay and amplitude controls using Helipots have effective scales of over 50in long and are suitably graduated so that controls may be set and read to better than 0.1%. Plug-in output units provide for fast rise and fall pulses or maximum precision of amplitude. When using the fast rise and fall time versions, the user may calibrate the amplitude controls on the main box by measuring the DC level at the output terminal of the plug-in unit. The degree of accuracy achieved will depend upon the accuracy of the user's measuring equipment. When used as a twin-channel pulse generator with mixed output, two units of the same type are normally required.
